Why We Should Ditch the Bacon and Eat More Oatmeal

We love bacon. We put in on cheeseburgers, in Bloody Mary’s, on glazed doughnuts and can find a place for it in almost any meal. Bacon is good. I get it – which is why I feel like a jerk for suggesting this, but I truly believe, we need to ditch it. While having bacon occasionally is OK, we need to stop the frequent bacon eating. In it’s place we should consider oatmeal… I know I sound really lame right now – please bear with me.

While bacon is “yum” and oatmeal seems “womp womp” there are a lot of benefits to reconsidering the way we feel about each food. Some benefits of switching out bacon for oatmeal are:

Save $$$

One pack of bacon costs more than one bag of oats. One pack of bacon is one meal while one bag of oats is about 15.

Health Benefits

Of course you’re not gonna tell your friends or your girl you’re eating oatmeal to save money. Tell them its for the health benefits, which include (but are not limited to):

  • Lowering bad cholesterol
  • Weight loss
  • Energy and muscle building
  • Heart health ❤️

Easy to prepare and can be made on the go

While steel cut oats are preferable, quick oats can be made on the go. I eat steel cut oats at home and keep a box of quick oats in my desk at work. They are a great snack and I also use them to deter me from eating unhealthy snacks that coworkers bring in.

Sense of community and belonging

Doesn’t misery love company? While you’re being all mopey and dramatic because you’re eating oatmeal instead of bacon maybe you’ll make a friend who also decided to make the right, healthy choice. (I am joking here but it sounds pretty logical.)

I see a lot of people who genuinely want to loose weight and be healthy. It can be tough and disheartening – especially when we are sold fad diets that aren’t built to work but rather to play off of our desire to lose weight easily. In order to lose weight and keep it off we need to have healthy eating habits. Eating oatmeal once a day can be one of them. It is healthy, it is relatively easy and it is friendly on our wallets. After adding oatmeal to your regular diet you will feel healthier and that will help you to forget about bacon. Do it.
